Schematic of the basic operation principles of a SOFC

A multidimensional, multicomponent, isothermal and dynamic model has been developed. It simulates the mass transport phenomena taking place in the fuel/air channel, the porous electrodes and the electrolyte of a planar SOFC.

It allows prediction of the species composition profiles throughout the SOFC.

For the numerical solution of the model equations, the finite element based software package COMSOL Multiphysics was used.
